What label has been placed on you—and what happens when you refuse to accept it?

We all get labeled.

Too loud. Too quiet. Too sensitive. Too aggressive. Too weird. Too much. Not enough.

Some labels come from strangers. Some come from family, friends, society, or even ourselves.

For Challenging Labels, we're asking you to challenge one.

Create a piece of art that explores, rejects, reclaims, transforms, or simply questions a label that has been placed on you—or one you've placed on yourself.

There are no rules for how you challenge it.

Make us understand it. Make us question it. Make us uncomfortable. Make us laugh. Make us angry. Make us see you differently.

Just don't let the label speak for you.

HOW IT WORKS

  1. Artist submits their work.

  2. LOWLIFE selects the exhibition pieces.

  3. Artists get early access to the gallery.

  4. The gallery is made available to the public.

  5. The audience votes on the piece that best fits the label.

  6. The winner is announced and given the prize.

THE PRIZE

The winner of Challenging Labels will receive:

  • $100

  • A box of shirts from LOWLIFE's Behavior Issues Collection.

  • A personal review of their artwork by the founder of LOWLIFE, published on The LOWDOWN (our blog).

Your work doesn't just get you some cash, free merch, and exposure.

It gets the attention of the man who built LOWLIFE.

THE RULES

1. FOLLOW LOWLIFE
You must be following LOWLIFE to enter the contest.

2. CREATE YOUR PIECE
Create an original piece responding to the Challenging Labels prompt.

Painting, drawing, sculpture etc…

3. SUBMIT
Submit your work through the official submission form before the deadline.

4. ONE PERSON, ONE ENTRY
Each artist may submit one piece.

5. THE GALLERY
Selected submissions will be displayed in the Challenging Labels Virtual Gallery. Artists whose work is selected will receive early access before the gallery opens to the public.

6. THE PEOPLE DECIDE
Once the gallery opens, only LOWLIFE followers will get to vote for their favorite piece. The piece receiving the most votes wins.

7. ONE VOTE PER FOLLOWER

Every voter can only vote for one piece in the gallery.

*Any attempts to cheat will result in the voter being banned from all LOWLIFE socials and potentially the artist in question being disqualified from the contest and banned with them*

THE WINNER WILL BE THE ONE WHO MADE THE STRONGEST PIECE, NOT WHO HAS THE BIGGEST FRIEND GROUP.

8. BE ORIGINAL
Your submission must be your own original work. No AI-generated artwork, plagiarism, or uncredited use of another artist's work.

9. RESPECT THE SPACE
Challenging an idea doesn't mean attacking another person. Keep submissions within reasonable community standards.

HONORABLE MENTIONS

Not every piece will be selected for the main exhibition.

But sometimes a piece deserves to be seen anyway.

Honorable mentions will have their own space on the virtual gallery but will not be eligible for the winning prize.
